A message from Kat, our CEO at Growing Works.
What an amazing day we had in our ‘Big Green Space’ for our Harvest Celebration and AGM. We welcomes 98 guests to our site including our trustees, staff, volunteers and the Mayor of Kirklees. Visitors heard about our work, explored our projects and met some of our beneficiaries.
Our Harvest Celebration is a time of the year where we can come together and really enjoy what we have created. The event was also part funded by Creative Minds as part of our Wild & Well programme – connecting people and nature to improve wellbeing.
We ran a Forest Bathing session beneath our mature trees, enjoyed by all who took part; many guests enjoyed relaxing in our hammocks too! We offered opportunities to try Viking braiding, or making flower posies and some lovely relaxing outdoor yoga too!
The team served up delicious fresh soups made with crops harvested from our site. A big thank you to Little Nook Deli for providing gluten-free and vegan sweet treats. Our raffle raised £47, so thank you to everyone who took part and to the organizations that donated gift vouchers.
Alongside our celebration, we worked with local street artists and creatives, BYOB, who transformed our entrance with vibrant street art. They worked with our Young Shoots participants to gather their ideas and include their input. Apparently, it is now also a Pokémon tag!
Our Chair of Trustees, Richard, opened the AGM by thanking all our staff, volunteers and outgoing trustees. Richard did a wonderful speech rounding up our year and sharing our annual report. Richard reminisced on how he has been involved. It is vital that our board of trustees have lived experience, and we are very proud that it does.
We also felt it was important to support our community by collecting foodbank donations. We had plenty of donations on our collection table that we shared with Greenfields Dalton and Moldgreen United Reformed Church food banks.
This event has helped us raise vital unrestricted donations in turn helping us continue our work in the community. If you would like to support us, you can also donate online at www.growingworks.org.uk/donate.
A final thank you to everyone who came along and enjoyed our celebration – it was a pleasure to share the wonderful autumnal day with you.
